Why use RedactPix to pixelate image?

Local pixelation — zero data leaves your device

The mosaic effect is rendered with the Canvas API directly in your browser. No server roundtrip, no cloud processing, no privacy risk.

Adjustable block size

Control the pixel grid from fine (8px) to chunky (48px). Larger blocks obscure more detail; smaller blocks give a subtle retro effect.

Works on photos, screenshots, and documents

JPG, PNG, WEBP — up to 20 MB. Pixelate faces in photos, redact text in screenshots, or scramble license plates in street shots.

How to pixelate image — step by step

From raw image to safely redacted file in four steps.

Step 01

Upload your image

Choose a file, drag it in, or paste a screenshot. The image opens directly in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Step 02

Draw over the area

Drag to create a box over the region you want pixelated. Or use Scan to auto-detect faces and sensitive text first.

Step 03

Choose Mosaic and adjust

Select "Mosaic" from the masking toolbar. Adjust the block size slider to control how chunky the pixelation looks.

Step 04

Download the final image

Export a single PNG with the mosaic baked in. Metadata is stripped automatically — the result is a clean, shareable file.

Frequently asked questions

Is pixelation better than blur for privacy?
Pixelation (mosaic) and blur both obscure detail, but pixelation with large blocks is harder to reverse-engineer than a light blur. For maximum security with text, use a solid black box.
Can I pixelate specific text in a screenshot?
Yes. Click "Scan for Private Info" and RedactPix detects emails, phone numbers, URLs, and ID-like numbers using on-device AI, then suggests boxes you can review.
What is the difference between pixelate and mosaic?
They are the same effect — replacing a region with large, blocky pixels. RedactPix labels it "Mosaic" in the toolbar, but the technique is identical to pixelation.
Can I undo pixelation?
Within the editor, yes — each box is independent and removable until you export. Once you download the flattened PNG, the pixelation is permanent and irreversible.
